DOT Violations

Sidewalk Violations & DOT Permits in the Bronx

NYC DOT inspects sidewalks citywide and issues a Notice of Sidewalk Violation when it finds a defect that makes the walkway unsafe. For a Bronx owner, that notice starts a repair clock and stays on record against the property until it is cleared.

Owners have 75 days to repair the cited defects. After that, DOT may perform the work itself and the Department of Finance sends the bill to the owner.

Repairs have to be made under a Sidewalk Construction Permit, and once the work is finished a dismissal inspection is requested using the violation number and the permit number. NYC311 explains the dismissal process in full.
